E-File Bits:: My Holy Trinity

Hey Whispies!

So very often I get asked, pretty much every time I break out my e-file...

"What bits do you use? Why? Where do you get them from?"

Well, I'm here to break it down, and to tell you that tbh, you're probably overthinking it.

I use 3 bits for every manicure, and rarely stray from my holy trinity.

All my nail accessories are purchased from mynailstuff.com. I love supporting small business- especially when I know that their products are high quality. Candice, the owner of MNS, is an absolute sweetheart, and knows what she's talking about when it comes to e-file work and high quality bits.

So what are my favorite bits, you ask?

For every manicure, I utilize my 3 key items:

Disc code TNW10

This was the product that first drew me to MNS. Needless to say, it was love at first sight.

This diamond cuticle bit has a unique shape; A perfect point, with a flat belly. It's ideal for multi-use- The tip for opening up the pocket and lifting the skin/cuticle, and the flat belly for exfoliating and reducing keratinized skin buildup. I do literally all of my skin and cuticle prep with this bit, and nip only if necessary.

Comes in a handy pack of 2. Trust me, you'll want 4.

Disc code TNW10

I have used. So. Many. Barrel bits. In my time as a nail technician.

While they all boast similarities, the major factor that I feel defines a quality one is the life span of the bit itself.

The black coating on this bit (on top of it looking really, really cool) actually has a purpose; It reduces friction to create a more comfortable experience for the client, as well as extending the life and sharpness of the bit. It's even got a nicely beveled edge to prevent cuts to the skin.

it's available in medium and coarse options- I prefer the medium myself.

I use this bit to reduce existing product and eliminate any large amount of lifting from the nail, before going in for prep.

Disc code TNW10

Ugh. Literally when I tell you I feel so much more confident with this mandrel compared to the larger classic size.

I can actually see where I'm going, and use this mandrel to prep the natural nail as well as blend existing product without worrying about over filing and doing excessive damage to the nail.

The sanding bands for this bit are a 180 grit zebra finish, which I love. A perfect happy medium grit that will texturize the natural nail without really digging in. I like to flip mine half way through to get a fresh edge on the second hand.

There you go! My three holy grail bits that I use for every manicure I do.

As a little extra, here are some honorable mentions that I break out from time to time:

This polisher bit is so great for exfoliating the skin post gel application, if you like doing an oil buff. It's got a great size for covering area while avoidng scuffing your gel application.

If you get a bit of gel flooding the skin, this skinny baby is amazing for touching that up! I especially like this one for beveling the underside edge of square nails to prevent free edge lifting.

If you pick these up, I'd love to hear your thoughts on them!

Until then, happy shopping!
